For many school-age students, spring break happens during the week before or after Easter. This year, Easter is the first Sunday in April, so you have less than two months to attract your spring break families. Get your marketing messages and promotions out now with the intention of enticing people who hadn’t thought about a spring break getaway AND people who are already planning one. Check out the steps below for an effective way to do this.
Step 1: Create Relevant Blog Posts
Families planning to travel for spring break are generally most concerned with family bonding, exciting activities after being cooped up all winter, having a little something for everyone, and finally, finding a good deal.
To first get the attention of spring breaking families, create content in the form of a blog post that appeals to these concerns and pain points of this specific audience. To attract them to read your post, choose topics such as:
- “5 Free Things to Do in (insert destination) During Spring Break,”
- “10 Activities Fit for The Entire Family in (insert destination)”
- “Why (insert destination) is the Best Place to Choose for Your Family’s Spring Break Vacation”
Step 2: Put a Calls-to-Action Linked to Spring Break Specials in that Blog Post
Include a call-to-action (CTA) graphic at the bottom of your blog post that invites the blog post reader to check out your spring break specials. Make this CTA attention-grabbing and link it to a page on your website where they can find spring break specials when they rent with your vacation rental company. If you link this CTA using a trackable URL, you’ll be able to measure how many people clicked on it. Use the Google URL builder to create this special link. Doing so will allow you to see in your Google Analytics account how much traffic went to that page as a result of that CTA.
Step 3: Share in Social Media & Create a Facebook Ad for It
With nearly 70% of Americans using social media today, honing in on your target audiences through social media channels will increase your vacation rental company’s chances of getting found more often and by the right people. Use Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and many others to get found where people already are asking the very same questions you have answers to.
Post your blog posts containing the CTA’s on your social accounts to reach your followers, and even extend your reach to your non-followers by use of hashtags. Hashtags connect related content together through a single word or term for people to find information easier and faster. Be sure to use vibrant, attention grabbing images, especially when posting in Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest, to draw attention to your content.
Creating a Facebook ad to promote the blog post(s) will allow you to ensure the post is seen by your specific target audience. Your Facebook ad can be targeted to people by geographic location, age, gender, interests, and other demographics. Once people click on the ad, they will be taken to your blog post where they will receive helpful information and a call-to-action to search your spring break specials. This where the process comes full circle and can lead to bookings. The cost of Facebook ads is relatively inexpensive – often around $0.11 per click for vacation rental companies in our experience.
Step 4: Send a Link to that Blog Post to Your Email List
Reach people who are already familiar with your company by sending that blog post to them via email. If the content is helpful and not overly-promotional, they will appreciate the information. This will drive traffic to your website and the call-to-action to search your spring break specials. It’s another way to make your blogging efforts truly result in bookings. Be sure to include only an excerpt of the blog post in the email, though. If you include the whole thing, your audience won’t have a reason to visit your website.
By creating relevant content and distributing it to your target audience in social media, you will increase your chances of attracting spring breaking families to your vacation rental company’s website and increase your chances of booking more renters this spring break!
