With more than 40 million active monthly users, Pinterest proves to be an effective platform to promote your company through direct engagement with your target audience. Pinterest has recently enhanced its features to help you optimize your pins and to ensure users are receiving the best quality pins based on their interests. Here are the following changes Pinterest has made and what you should do to ensure your pins are getting the maximum amount of exposure for optimal marketing results.
Pinterest’s new Smart Feed is a set of algorithms, using a trio of elements to produce users with the highest quality experience possible, according to Pinterest. The new system is doing away with the time-ordered home feed system and replacing it with a more flexible one.
Pinterest will now be selective in choosing pins that will show up in users home feeds in order to provide the user with the best experience. If many of the same type of pins are published at the same time, Pinterest will hold back the lower quality of the pins for a later session. Instead of displaying on your home feed in the newest-first fashion, pins will now be displayed in the best-first methodology.
How will Pinterest determine what is best, and what to put on a home feed’s back burner? They will use an overall rating, determined by a factors including pin quality and also of the quality of the site to which the pin is linked.
With the new algorithm, your pin will first receive a score based on its value to the receiving user and the most valuable will be placed in the feed first, storing the rest for later consumption. Those pins will be put into a “priority queue” sorted by their score. With this new system, the highest quality Pins, according to Pinterest, will be available to users over time.
Ways to optimize your pins for high pin-quality so that they will stay at the top of your followers’ home feeds:
- Make attractive pins using photos. Vertical images work the best, as well as high-res, good-quality images.
- Since your pins will be judged on their subjective quality, make sure that you are creating relevant, helpful content. The more times your pin is re-pinned, the higher it appears on the smart feed and the longer it stays there.
- Ensure that you are pinning from a reputable site.
Follow these guidelines and keep your Pinterest pins in the top of your followers’ home feeds for optimal exposure.
