Last week, Google and Twitter furthered their partnership by debuting Twitter results within the main Google search pages on desktop and laptop computers. The feature was initially rolled out in May and has expanded globally to include all English speaking countries.
Google will include Twitter posts as part of their results by giving them their very own “carousel.” The carousel will be its very own box of Twitter-only results and will show a few top tweets as well as a link to all Twitter results based on that search query. Any Twitter content that Google deems “relevant” will appear in those results.
What does this mean for your business?
While it is important to get your business’ message out to your target audience as much as possible, seeing traceable ROI from Twitter can often prove to be difficult. This is because of the sheer volume of tweets that are written on a daily basis. To remain at the top of your target audience’s Twitter feed, you have to tweet as often as possible. However, now that Tweets are ranked as search results, the opportunity to show up to reach your potential customers on an entirely different platform is now present. This should serve as extra motivation because now Tweets won’t simply go by the wayside once they trickle down to the bottom of consumer’s feeds. Tweets now have a chance to see “second life” if Google deems them relevant for the millions of search queries that are performed every day.
What Types of Tweets will Gain Traction with Google?
Like any other content your business publishes or shares, Tweets should contain helpful and interesting information. Think about what types of information your target audience would be curious about, or what they would be searching for. Once you have decided what questions your target audience may have, simply answer their questions. To get the most value out of your Tweets, don’t simply Tweet text, but include a link back to your blog or website that will further inform the consumer and answer their questions.
